This is my first attempt at diving into documentary photography. Over the course of this work, I looked at how the people of Madison, WI view bike ownership. Although there are great examples of good bike ownership and infrastructure, it was impossible to disregard how neglected most bikes in the city have become.
As students graduate and leave the city, many also leave behind their bikes. Some are stripped for parts, some are vandalized, and some are condemned to rot and rust against bike racks and buildings. Finally, the rise in popularity of electric scooters on campus has changed the landscape of personal transportation in the city, but it will never replace the timeless bicycle.
